Hello Family and friends!
My first week out in the field has been great!
Monday: It was my last day in the MTC so I really didn't do much. I just kind of hung out with the district before we left.
Tuesday: Was a rough day I had to wake up at 3 am to get to the airport and everything, and I made myself sick by being extremely nervous... I didn't eat or drink anything for like 12 hours because it just made me super sick. I finally got on the plane at about 8 o'clock and then took off at 9. I slept the whole way to Washington which is super uncomfortable. We arrived in Washington and I was just so excited to start to serve! My nerves were gone, I could eat whatever I wanted and it didn't make me sick and I was happy about that! We also got our companions and mission areas. My companion is Elder Larson from Southern California, and we are serving in the Forks Washington area. The biggest mission in Tacoma and also the furthest from Tacoma. It is about 5 1/2 hours away from Tacoma. Also the home of Twilight! So after we got assigned that stuff there was a departure testimony meeting for the missionaries who were leaving so we weren't done until around 7 o'clock at night, which meant that we had to drive to Port Angeles and stay the night at our Zone Leaders apartment. The first night in the mission, I slept on the couch...
Wednesday: I had my first district meeting. We were in Port Angeles for awhile until we got back in time for a dinner appointment and to knock doors. We knock doors every night from 5-7 and I actually love it! It is a great way to meet new people in the area. The people we had dinner with was the Potons. They are such a great family and they have 8 kids! It is a crazy house!
Thursday: Thanksgiving day! It was weird not being with my family at home, but I tried not to think about that too much! Anyways, we had 2 dinners set up for that day! the first one was with the Beck's and they fed us DUCK! Like quack quack! It wasn't to bad actually! Dry! But not to bad. Then we went to the Cordova's and we had a regular turkey dinner there! It was very good! Very filling! We then had to go to Tacoma because I had a training there on Friday, so we hit the road again.
( My first 3 nights in Washington, I slept in a bed once...)
Friday: My training was on Friday, extremely boring and kinda pointless, but I tried to get the most out of it! Noting much really happened today. OH! We went over on miles for the month on Friday so we had to walk and bike everywhere for the next 2 days! Forks is really spread out so it sucks! There are about 3,000 people in Forks so it is super tiny! We rode our bikes to an appointment with an 11 year old but his dad is a JW so he told us to go away. It sucked, and that was all that we had time to do on Friday.
Saturday: My first full day in Forks! We walked everywhere and It was super windy and cold because it snowed Friday night! My toes got cold and the cold made it worse! We had 4 appointments dropped and it was really discouraging, but I just thought of why I was out here and what my Mom, Dad, Bekka, and Jessica have all said about just get lost in the work and work hard and everything will be ok. I picked my head up, picked up the pace and just kept hoping for the best in things! We also knocked doors on Saturday night and we came across this crazy lady with a big old dog who kept yelling at us to go away. I started to think "Will she actually release that dog on us?" I was kind of scared for a second, ha ha. Then the next door we knocked on, it was this lady and I swear, this lady was as high as a kite! Her eyes were all bug eyed and popping out of her head, it was kinda creepy. That was our Saturday experience.
Sunday: It was a bit different! There are only about 60 active members of Forks so it is suuuppppeeeerrrr tiny! I had to bear my testimony! Elder Larson made us do the ward choir! it sucks haha, that was pretty much all we did!
That was my week for all of you! I hope it was detailed enough for you mom! I love you mother! Keep praying for Hemana Kunz and me! It helps tons to know you are all keeping us in your prayers!
With Love,
Elder Ben Kunz
